Our first instinct is to turn on the light when walking into a dark room. This festive season, as lights play a crucial role in how we view every home, it makes sense that we use beautiful traditional lighting to brighten our homes. Festive lights will breathe life into every nook and cranny of your house, from the biggest rooms to the quietest corners.

Lights have the capacity to enhance a house’s interiors and exteriors and render it a welcoming place for both its occupants and visitors. The general layout of the house and uncomfortable corners should be taken into account in the lighting scheme, which would be left in darkness if those lights were turned off.

We will show you through this book how the designers of UK Concept have used budget-friendly lighting arrangements to decorate homes in the best possible way, taking into account the size, history and style of furniture.

1 1. A Stunning Eye-catching Chandelier

In this classic dining room, string lights make a beautiful light fixture. Several strings wrap around a circular frame that has chains hanging from the ceiling. It gives a classic room an old-world touch, though still operating in an industrial space as well. Great for any time of year or for the holiday season.

2. Make a Statement with Lights

On any wall of your home, sweeping curves and sparkling lights allow you to express your hopes and dreams. The nursery of a child is a great location for string lights, as they have a gentle glow that is perfect for sleeping without full darkness. And adding your personal ambition for your baby generates a sign of hope that every night your child will be taken to dreamland.

3. Light shelves

What better way to display your favourite objects than on this cool illuminated shelf? Made from fine, anodised aluminium, this clever two-in-one solution is perfect for a home office, as it can double up as a reading light. We love how it adds an ombre effect to any wall, too.

4. Ambient Lighting

Your room’s primary source of light is ambient lighting. In soft light, it covers your room, improves visibility and provides far-reaching lighting. This kind of lighting lets you safely traverse your whole room. You’re just going to fly in a beautiful environment, not your things!

5. Light of the wall that counts as art

If you mainly use your living room for Netflix and chilling, why not use the space above your sofa to add a dramatic wall light such as Tilen Sepič’s Eclipse Wall Light for Bazar Noir as seen in this Pamono set-up living room. A conversation starter, a mood-setter and works particularly well in a minimal space is the form of practical wall art and decor.

6. Concealed Lighting Design

The room looks bright here, but you can’t see where the light is located. This style of lighting is becoming popular, called concealed lighting, and is an excellent choice for making the room look subtle and spacious. A warm, diffused light in the room provides a hidden lighting style. In living rooms and bedrooms, concealed lighting works well, and you can easily complement it with hanging lights where a focal point is needed.

7. Focus Lighting

To illuminate and highlight the areas of your choosing, you can use focal lights on the wall or ceiling. It can highlight a painting, or a corner, in the living room. It will light up the nameboard at the entrance. To concentrate on a seating area in the bedroom or on a kitchen island where food is cooked, you can use this form of lighting.

8. Exterior Lighting

Exterior lighting is as critical as interior lighting, because when you have visitors, the exterior of your home is what produces the first impression. Not only does a well-lit house look better, but it is also safe from thefts and robberies. To ensure lower costs and high quality, schedule low maintenance and energy efficient lighting for your home’s exterior.

9. A mix of lighting

Getting only one form of lighting design in a home is never enough. A mix is ideal, and to have a well-lit space with sharp focal points, you can have several lighting styles in one room. With hanging lights to break the monotony or focus lights to highlight those objects and complement the natural light in a room.
